Save money Backpacking! How a backpacker can save money while you travel. Accommodation and bank fees.

Seems these days everyone is trying to "Not spend more than they have to!" Chances are you are making your way around Australia using your Cash card or credit card. This could be costing you a small fortune. These days with all the bank fees and ATM fees you will probably find you are spending maybe up to $20 to $50 a week on these fees. If you can fix this, here are a few good ways to ensure you are not loosing more money than you have to.

When you come to Australia get a local bank account at one of the many banks. BUT, shop around. Smaller banks have better deals but remember the big 4 have more ATM's around the more remote areas of Australia.

Check the cost of fees on bank accounts as some account may not pay interest, but, also have no fees. You will loose in one place but save big time in the long run.

Try to use your own banks ATM as they generally don't charge you to use an ATM and ask your bank which ATM's they affiliate with.

If you do need to to use another ATM better pull out all the money you need for the day. You will be charged the same amount if you get out $20 or $200.

Many businesses will charge an amount $1, $2 and more when you pay by card. Again look at your daily budget and save a bit of money when you pay by CA$H. Work out how much money you need each day or even a few days.

You should work out your daily budget and withdraw the full amount in cash you require. Work out what you require for food accommodation travel and entertainment.

Remember the banks are making record profits in a global recession and a lot of this is our fault.

Think before you pay buy card. You pay fees and the business you are buying from pays fees, I can assure you the business wants your cash not your card.
