Every now and then we get a review that makes you feel like you are doing a good job and you are being appreciated. (Please see below) This backpacker went to the trouble of giving us some great feedback which we really appreciate:
Then it got me thinking.
Have backpackers lost the adventure? Have they stopped taking the plunge?
Sadly, I feel more and more backpackers are being led around by their pockets and smart phone by businesses that are intent of extracting your money. So, instead of booking the first thing offered by the many booking agencies, trying to up-sell you the next best package, try this cause it may save you a few dollars. Research the area, event or activity yourself and then ring and book your deals directly with the people with the product. Tell them your story and they may even give you a better deal. If not go back to the booking agency.
You have nothing to lose and much to gain.
So to all you backpackers " Get in touch with the spirit that is BACKPACKING" stop relying on your smart phone to tell you where you should stay, where you should go, what you should do and live a little.
Trust me some of your choices may be real pigs, but what is the adventure of life if you always land on your feet. You may look back and have a good-ol belly laugh about in time to come.

This is one of the old classic backpacker hostel before base, YHA and nomads ruined it. It has different levels and cozy rooms. The common areas are a bit dated but all good. The hostel is central located, the rooms are clean and nice. the kitchen is clean and well equiped. It is close to the greyhound terminal and the ferry. But no party in the hostel, but enough pubs nearby.

Thank you for your email. I'm happy to anwser the questions you asked me regarding the review.
In my opinion big hostels like nomads, base, etc. Ruined the backpacking. At those big boys you need to pay to use cutterly, the kitchens are a mess and you can't find a decent pot or pan. We were positively suprised by the free salt, peper, oil we could use. But also the good quality of pots and panda, sharpe knives, etc.
The common area's are a bit dated. The platic tables and chairs give a dated feeling. If you would replace those with wooden or beter quality, than would the common area be more friendly and less dated.
Last we want to compliment u with the lovely tv corner. Good washing facilities and warm welcome atmosphere! Use the feedback in any form you like.
