VIPUL MODI the owner of "Ethnic Roots" is a company the lists itself on Alibaba and tries to get you to deal outside the safty of the website which allows them to rip you off. Sadly FEDEX did not help the situation.

 We bought this helmet to decorate our office. Also I had been looking to find a company to deal with to start importing similar products to sell in Australia. As the hostel is called the "Reef Lodge" this seemed like a good asset to make our office / reception look a little salty. :-) and a good way to start an import contact.

I was wrong :-(



 This is how the box arrived as you can see it has been dropped.


 This is the hole in the side of the box which is where the pipe on the helmet came through the side of the box.


As you can see this hole is about 7cm which is the same size as the pipe that was bent on the helmet.


Although his is in one piece the black frame is broken into 3 parts and all the bolts that hold it all together have been ripped out.

The cracks can be seen at the back and in the front.

This is where the bolts were ripped out.

Brass bolt holding part of the helmet on was snapped from the box being dropped.

Another mounting bolt ripped out of the base.

Although this cant be seen overly well the pipe has been bent and caused the indentation of the helmet.

Again not very well illustrated here but the little bolts have made quite large indentation in to brass collar.


Below is an e-mail from the owner of Ethnic Roots VIPUL MODI stating they have been reimbursement from FEDEX. He then goes on to say that unless I send back the item at my own cost I will not get my U.S.$350=00 refund. If you do the maths, the cost of sending the item back, (Which technically is now FEDEX property, as they have paid for the broken item.) is more than the item
is worth.

So, in short, I paid the US$350-00 for a brass diving helmet which was shipped from India. It was broken when arrived. FEDEX paid the supplier the US$350-00 to replace and send the item. VIPUL MODI dated 6/05/2014 6:22 PM the owner of the Indian company Ethnic Roots has refused to send a new brass diving helmet although he has been paid by FEDEX to do so, until I send the broken helmet back at my own expense. Although the original response was it would be sent when FEDEX paid the costs of the item and the freight.

This is a company that I found on the Alibaba trading site and tried to set up a business relationship with back in October of2013The issue has been going on since the item arrived in mid January 2014.
5 months later!

Below is a response to VIPUL MODI of Ethnic Roots in response to the e-mail sent to me: On 16/05/2014 6:22 PM in which he states I have used vulgar language. Attached below are also many of the emails with relation although there are many more if any one is interested.

As is your impeccable ability to make up stories as you go. This is the first mention of return.
Again this is not a problem. The thing is FEDEX has already paid you for the damaged
item and you stated that this in earlier e-mails. You stated earlier as soon as they sorted out
the cost of freight this would be sorted out. So in fact if the item is returned you will have been
paid for the item 2 times for the same product once by me and then by FEDEX as well as
get the product back.

I really think you need to read your previous e-mails and understand you continue to contradict
yourself. Hence I see it like this. You don't really want to give me a refund, you are just making
this as difficult as possible. In the past you do not answer e-mails!

all of this proves you are liar!

This would have been so simple if you just organised a replacement to be sent after FEDEX
paid you for the damaged product. Instead you simply made every excuse not to do so.

What part of FEDEX have agreed to pay for the product (yes FEDEX have paid you for the
damaged product)
and all you had to do was organise for FEDEX to pick up the replacement.

So please do me a favour ether organise the replacement and send it, FEDEX will pick it up when
you do, as part of the claim. I will organise the broken helmet to be packed and shipped back.
FEDEX will organise the pick-up and delivery back to you. or just organise the refund of
US$350-00 ether-way I don't care. Although I would rather my $350-00 back over a replacement
as I will not be doing any return bussiness with you. You have lost a potential export to Australia
due to your lack of foresight.

You state "dont be in misconception that we would get it collected and pay for the return item."

FEDEX have paid you for the replacement item already I have seen the shipping receipt and
 they have told me that  you have been reimbursed. FEDEX will pay for the shipping! what part of
this don't you understand?

If you had simply fixed this in the first place I would have seen this as a potential good reason to deal
with your company in the future. Bad problems only need a good resolve.

    I am wondering if I am waisting my time trying to set up a buying partner in India as all I seem to do is ask about what is happening with reguard to my order.
    are you interested in doing bussiness or just playing around. If you want my bussiness you will need to do better than this. I was waiting to put in a larger order

    If you are not willing to help I will open a dispute wuith them. FEDEX said they will pay the claim.
    As it was over 45 days I was unable to get a refund through Paypal.

    I would like to purchase one sample to look at your product and see if it will suffice for my prospective clients.
    I am looking for wholesale prices "not retail" and the cheapest form of transport. I do not need the stand for
    this first sample but would like to know the cost of freight for 5 units with stands for future orders. At this stage
    I am looking at buying 5 units per order to minimise import and tax costs into Australia.
