Reef Lodge Backpackers Townsville

Tuesday 9 December 2014

Working in Townsville for accommodation is a good way to save money and allow you to stay in an area for a longer time.

We get lots of backpackers in Townsville looking to work for Free accommodation and in particular WWOOFing.

World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms or WWOOFing has these days become a term for a lot of people relating to work for accommadation. Techniquely this is not the case and you can read more about becoming a WWOOFer at:
www.wwoof.com.au/

Work for accommodation is often seen as a great way to really get to know any given area. These jobs may involve anything from P.R.work, kitchen cleaning, gardening, cleaning or just odd jobs. This is often the best value for money and you normally only work few hours a day. The rest of your day is yours. We often get WWOOFers coming through asking about work and there are a number place around Townsville who offer WWOOFing.

Often you will learn things or skills about organic farming you otherwise may have never thought about.

This often depends on the amount of work you are doing and how remote the area you are working in. Gumtree is a good place to have a look and many people offer free meals and a bed for simply helping out. These places can be in the cities, country towns and on remote cattle, sheep and agricultural property. Also we do get people sending in jobs for our job board for both paid and unpaid work.

Learn to ride a motor bike.

Some WWOOFers will get to live on a station in some of the remote places of Australia, Learn to ride a bike or a horse. Even other skills such as animal handling, mustering, fencing just to name few. Although it is more often than not hard work it can be very rewarding and in some cases some backpackers have become life long friends with their hosts.

Meet some of the locals. "Hello Mr. Blue tongue!"

One thing to keep in mind is that Australia is a BIG and often VACANT landscape and some people feel a little daunted by the sheer remoteness they end up in. It can be overwhelming in some case as you are 2 or 3 hours away from the nearest town which may have a population of a few hundred people. But this can certainly be a great opportunity for self growth.

How to build a dry wall.

Cuddle the babbies.

So that's where pigs come from.

Hay! you cow.
